If you follow the world of injecting, you have probably heard the term Daxxify going around lately. Daxxify, also known as daxibotulinumtoxina-lanm (we see why a nickname is needed here), is the new neurotoxin on the scene, and it’s creating quite a buzz. While we await its arrival, I wanted to tell you what we know about Daxxify and why we are so excited about it.
What is Daxxify?
Daxxify is a newly developed neurotoxin designed to treat fine lines and wrinkles. Similar to other neurotoxins, such as Botox or Dysport, Daxxify works to relax facial muscles by attacking certain nerve cells that would make the muscle contract. By relaxing the muscles that would cause fine lines and wrinkles to worsen over time, the neurotoxin can help smooth lines already present and prevent more from showing up over time.
FDA approves Daxxify
An exciting announcement was made in September when the Food and Drug Administration approved Daxxify. The creator of the new drug, Revance Therapeutics, submitted many studies to the FDA proving that the treatment to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles is successful and even lasts longer than treatments currently being used. Following the FDA approval announcement, the CEO of Revance Therapeutics explained that his company discovered a new way to keep the neuromuscular blocker stable using peptide-exchange technology.
How does Daxxify differ from Botox?
What is so exciting about a new product like Daxxify being released in the market is its ability to treat fine lines for longer periods. Daxxify patients indicated that the median duration of the treatment lasts anywhere from six to nine months. Considering how frequently Botox patients have to come into the office for maintenance, this could result in fewer office visits for patients.
Another aspect that makes Daxxify unique compared to other injectable neuromodulators is that it is peptide-formulated. Revance Therapeutics’s vice president has said that he believes the longer-lasting effects of Daxxify stem from higher levels of the toxin entering the neurons because of the peptide technology. While this has not been proven yet, we are excited to learn more about Daxxify and its potential.
When will Daxxify be available?
Although we do not have a specific date, you will not have to wait long! Lemmon Avenue will be receiving Daxxify sometime this fall or winter. Follow along with the Atlanta injectors on Instagram and TikTok to be notified as soon as it is available to be administered.
I hope this answered some of your questions about Daxxify and left you just as excited about the new injectable as we are. After all, longer-lasting results and fewer office treatments – what could be more exciting than that?!
